No. 14 (2A) Lisbon softball keeps piling up the wins, but can’t seem to get a signature victory.
No. 9 (1A) North Linn, the leader of the Tri-Rivers West, beat them Wednesday, June 10, 13-5, in Coggon.
The Lions managed only four hits, including a home run by Kamryn Kahl and a double by Alexa Roos. It was a makeup game from an earlier rain out, and started at 10 a.m.
“North Linn showed up to play and they hit well,” Lisbon coach Abbey Shultz said. “We got our feet under us in the fifth inning, but came up short.”
Lisbon (10-6, 8-2) kept pace in the Tri-Rivers East with a sweep of East Buchanan on Tuesday, June 9, 14-0 and 12-1, both in four innings.
In the opener, Kyla Kahl pitched a 1-hitter with three strikeouts.
Shea Benhart led the offense with two hits, including a home run, and Ayla Blanchard had two triples. Kamryn Kahl also had a triple, and Alexis Jensen hit 2-for-3.
In the second game, Emma Pleasant got the pitching win, and also hit a home run with 2 RBIs. Kyla Kahl hit a home run with 3 RBIs. Blanchard hit 2-for-2.
“We hit really well, and we hit well with two outs, too,” Shultz said. “It is fun when they don’t let the momentum die out and they just keep going with it.”
Another Tri-Rivers matchup with Bellevue Marquette on Monday, June 8, was postponed to Tuesday, June 16. And two games at Maquoketa Valley on Thursday, June 11, were moved to June 30.
The Lions closed the rainy week with a wild 4-3 win over Northeast at Goose Lake on Friday, June 12.
Kyla Kahl scattered seven hits and struck out five for the win. Blanchard had a home run and 2 RBIs, and Pleasant hit 2-for-2.
But the signature play of the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rebels waved in the gametying run, but Lisbon left fielder Brynnley Patterson gunned her down at home plate to preserve the win.
“We were playing tight, but had every right to win that game,” Shultz said. “We knew Northeast could hit, and once they start, they don’t stop.
“That was a phenomenal throw. It is the first year Brynnley has played left field. That was fun to see.”
