A total of 29,745 votes were cast in the primary election Tuesday, June 2, in Linn County, 18,794 for Democratic Party and 10,951 for the Republican party. A total of 3,945 of those votes were absentee ballots, with 25,800 on election day.
Voter turnout for the Democratic Party was 35.02 percent of registered Democratic voters and was 25.30 of registered Republican voters. Overall turnout in the election was 18.77 percent of the 158,441 registered voters in Linn County.
In contested races:
For the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, Josh Turek had the most votes 11,081 to Zach Wahls 7,576.
In Democrat candidate for U.S. House District 2, Lindsay James had the most votes with 8,138, followed by Clint Twedt-Ball at 6,927 and Kathy Dolter at 2,922.
For the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Ashley Hinson had the most votes with 8,766 and Jim Carlin with 2,043.
In the Republican candidate for U.S. House District 2, Joe Mitchell had the most votes with 5,630 with Charlie McClintock having 4,132.
In the Republican governor’s race, Zach Lahn had the most votes with 4,487, Randy Feenstra with 4,200, Adam Steen with 1,154, Brad Sherman with 597 and Eddie Andrews with 332.
For the Republican auditor of state race, Chris Cournoyer had 4,894 votes to Abigail Maas 4,304.
The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
