The Mount Vernon Lions Club met Monday, April 27 at the Lester Buresh Center in Mount Vernon. There were two speakers for the program. The first was Jacob Lindauer, the head of the Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance Service. He talked about the history and current usage of the service, but spent most of his time discussing the proposed establishment of a joint EMS District. This special property tax district and levy will be voted on in a special election later this year and will include the cities of Lisbon and Mount Vernon as well as five surrounding rural townships.
The second speaker was Ann Baughman from the Eldridge club. She is in line to be the District Governor and is currently a trustee of the Iowa Lions Foundation. She updated the club on events to come in the district and reviewed the current projects funded by the foundation. Those include Iowa Kids Sight, Iowa Lions Eye Bank and Cochlear Implant Center, all in connection with the University of Iowa and also the state hearing aid bank and eyeglasses recycling program.
The next Lions club meeting will be May 18 at Kernoustie Golf Club.
