The Lisbon track double dip got turned into a single, as rain wiped out the Lisbon Opener on Tuesday, April 14.
But the Lion boys and girls finally got some good weather for the Lisbon Invitational on Thursday, April 16.
The boys finished third, behind Alburnett and West Branch. Justin Snyder won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.
“That was a lifetime best for Justin,” Lisbon coach Lonnie Speidel said. “That sets him up to maybe be a state qualifier.”
The Lions also won the distance medley in 3:36.81, a meet record. That foursome was Ryder Meeks, Chase McFarlane, Caleb Ross and Anthony Armstrong.
“They had the best time in Class 1A coming into the meet, and bettered that,” Coach Speidel said.
It was a night for breaking records, as 10 meet records fell. Sometimes the second- and third-place finishers would have broken the record, as well.
“The quality of the meet was really good this year,” Speidel said.
The Lion boys, who have won the last three 1A team titles at state, won’t have any competitors at Drake this week.
“We’ve been spoiled the last few years,” Coach Speidel said. “But this gives us a chance to get good meets in at Tipton and at West Liberty. We need the competition.”
The Lisbon girls finished fifth, behind Anamosa, Alburnett, Highland and Springville. Ten meet records were broken on the girls’ side, as well.
Freshman Kooper Martin placed second in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 9.25 inches.
