Duane “Dewey” Hohmann, 77, of Lisbon, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at home surrounded by family. Visitation was held at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.
Duane was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Dubuque, son to Robert and Ina Mae (Ehrlich) Hohmann. Duane graduated from Wahlert High School in 1966 and was united in marriage to Judy A. Grutz June 5, 1971. Duane was the love of her life for 54 years. Duane worked for Beecher Quarries, Operating Engineers Local #234, General Drivers Local #421, and retired from Bowker Mechanical Contractors as a heavy machine operator.
He enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques and saving everything for another day to be used, doing puzzles, watching the history channel, and woodworking, he was a jack of all trades, master of most, and also enjoyed grilling. He was known to family and friends as “Mr. Houdini”.
Duane is survived by his wife, Judy Hohmann; children, Deanna Hohmann, Tricia (Jason) Dausener, and Brenda (Christian “Chino”) Cardenas; grandchildren, Shelby (Dylan) Montgomery, Robyn Dausener, Benji and Creek Vogt, and Jenna Woodward; three step grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; siblings, Roger Hohmann, Eugene (Teri) Hohmann, Patricia (Ray) Thul, Catherine (Wayne) Sanden, Joseph (Becky) Hohmann, and Daniel (Diane) Hohmann; brother-in-law, Jerome Gaul; and mother-in-law, Eileen Grutz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joshua Hohmann; sister, Elizabeth Gaul; and father-in-law, Anthony Grutz.
The family extends a special thank you to Unity Point Hospice, UIHC, the teams of Dr. Smith and Dr. Zeitler, and to Dyane for her loving care.
