Lisbon Public Library held a slime making workshop Thursday, March 19, as part of spring break activities at the library.
Meredith Nehring, children’s librarian, led off a story time and conversation before the workshop kicked off at 2 p.m.
With temperatures in the 60s following Monday, March 16’s late winter blizzard conditions, Nehring asked if people had played in the sun Thursday or played in the snow earlier in the week during their spring break.
The book for story time was “To Make” by Danielle Davis and Mags DeRoma.
“Gather, make and wait” were the steps throughout the book about the process of creating art and items, like cakes, poems, stories, friendships and other activities.
“That’s what we’re going to be doing today with this slime,” Nehring said. “We’re going to gather our modeling clay, we’re going to make that into a bowl and add lotion. And then we’re going to work with the slime until it gets to the consistency we want.”
This year, attendees were able to add smells for their slime, as well as texture items like glitter and Styrofoam beads.
“The important thing to note with smells and glitter is a little bit of either goes a long way,” Nehring said.
More than 50 children and adults were at the program Thursday, so finding work space did get to be a slight issue.
“We have plenty of time and space for everyone to be able to make their own slime,” Nehring said.
The most popular scent added on the day was watermelon, while glitter and other textures were well appreciated.
