The City of Mount Vernon has awarded Dix Lawn Care with the cemetery mowing bid.
Dix offered a $31,900 bid for the care of the cemetery, a 7.5 percent cheaper bid than Jordan’s Property Care, who provided the mowing to the cemetery last year.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch said there were no issues with Jordan’s Property Care for the year they had taken care of the cemetery.
“We just have a bid that is cheaper from another company this year,” Nosbisch said.
The city had previously worked with the same contractor for the care of the cemetery lawns for multiple decades, but they retired at the end of the 2024 mowing season, forcing the city to find a new contractor to work on the property.
The council had tabled action on the cemetery bids after discussion at the March 2 council meeting. Council members had not known much about Dix Lawn Care and wanted to know more about the decision, including if there was a possibility of Jordan’s to alter their bid.
That was an issue that city administrator Chris Nosbisch said was not pursued by city staff.
“We can let other people know there were other bids on a project, but we can not go back to individual contractors to alter their bids after the fact,” Nosbisch said.
Council member Paul Tuerler moved to approve the contract, with council member Mark Andresen seconding.
