It was a special season for Lisbon girls’ basketball.
They won their first conference title in about 30 years and finished 14-9.
Still, it was a nice surprise that senior Kamryn Kahl was named the Tri-Rivers East Player of the Year, and Jack Leighty was named Coach of the Year.
“Kam as POY is a huge compliment to her and the hard work she has put in,” Leighty said. “She certainly deserved it. Her leadership and effort set the tone for our season.”
Kahl averaged 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
“In all of our big games, Kam had some of her best games of the season,” Leighty said.
Junior Morgan Sauser, who has spent much of her high school career recovering from knee injuries, finally got to play as a senior, and was a first-team pick. She averaged 9.2 points per game, and led the Lions with 53 3-pointers.
“It is a great honor for her and everything she has gone through,” Leighty said. “She can spread the floor and is a tough matchup because of her unique ability to shoot from long range.”
Sophomore Kyla Kahl was a second-team pick, and junior Ava Ahrendsen earned honorable mention. Kyla averaged 8.7 points per game.
“Kyla did a great job running the team from the point guard position,” Leighty said. “A good point guard always finds a way to get a bucket when the team needs one, and she did that for us consistently. You put that in with her tenacity on defense … and she was certainly deserving.”
