Sugar Daddy Cookies launched as an in-home bakery in early March.
Danica Whan said she has been baking as a hobby with her kids for the last seven to eight years.
“Cookies are my guilty pleasure,” Whan said. “I’ve been practicing and testing recipes for years. After being told ‘I need to open a bakery’ 1,000 times I finally decided it would be a fun hobby.”
Whan is a respiratory therapist at the University of Iowa Hospitals, and plans to keep her job. She works roughly two shifts a week – a 12-hour shift and a 24-hour shift.
“I love to have a side gig to focus on my days off,” Whan said.
Whan said she is looking to specialize in fun new cookie flavors in her baking.
Whan said the thing she has loved the most on starting her in-home bakery is all the support from her friends and the small town community.
Cookies will currently be sold via the Facebook Page “Sugar Daddy Cookies” by direct messaging, but Whan is looking into future website options.
“I plan to change flavors weekly, with a specified pick-up day for orders,” Whan said. “I am flexible and willing to work with people if they have a special event or request.”
Orders are paid for when ordering via venmo @sugardaddycookies and then to be picked up at Whan’s residence in 336 Candlestick Drive Northeast at the front porch (the green house on the block) on a designated delivery day each week.
When Whan isn’t baking or working her shifts at the University of Iowa Hospitals, she is keeping up with her 6 & 8 year old children. She also loves all the “grandma hobbies: baking, quilting, crocheting, and antiquing.”
