More than 300 people showed up for the Mount Vernon Josh Morris Memorial tournament at Mount Vernon High School Saturday, March 14.
While archers from several schools participated in a traditional tournament, firing three rounds of shots at two different distances each, community members were encouraged to participate in 50/50 raffles.
And at each raffle, the decision was made to make a donation of the winnings to the Morris family.
“The outpouring we’ve seen from the community, especially the archery community, is huge,” said James Robinson. “We had teams like Central Dewitt who came in and made a $500 donation to the cause.”
After each round of archers playing in the tournament, community members were able to shoot arrows themselves for $5 a round of shots.
All proceeds went to the Morris family from all the different events.
