Lisbon girls’ basketball had its four-game win streak halted Friday, Feb. 6, by No. 4 (1A) Springville, 52-36, inside the Lions’ Den.
The Orioles (19-1, 8-0 Tri-Rivers West) proved too much for the co-leaders of the Tri-Rivers East.
“We got off to a slow start,” Lisbon coach Jack Leighty said. The Lions fell behind 15-0. “After that, I felt that we righted the ship, but you can’t spot a good team 15 points.”
Rowan Jacobi led Springville with 26 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, five assists and four steals.
Morgan Sauser and Ava Ahrendsen each scored nine points to lead the Lions. Kamryn Kahl had six points and seven rebounds. Lisbon shot 28 percent (14 of 50).
“A game like this only makes us better,” Leighty said.
Lisbon (12-8, 10-1) closed the regular-season with a Monday, Feb. 9, game against North Cedar. They open Class 2A regional play Saturday at home against Northeast (1-19).
Win that, and the Lions travel to No. 12 Maquoketa Valley (16-4) for a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 17. (Lisbon lost to Maquoketa Valley 66-38 back on Jan. 9.)
