Lisbon finished second at the Tri-Rivers Championships on Friday, Jan. 23, in Starmont.
The six-team meet only had 34 total wrestlers. And six weight classes featured just one wrestler.
That worked out OK for Lisbon’s Grace Gadberry (105) and Kayla Stricker (170), who each came home with gold without wrestling.
“There was only one mat, and it was a very small crowd,” Lisbon Coach Seth Hall said. “It was a weird environment.”
East Buchanan won the team title with 126 points and Lisbon was second with 101. Elli Avila (115), Abby Bock (130), Kalya Moorman (140), Emma Dietsch (145) and Kaylee Jordan (155) all finished runner-up for the Lions.
Hall said it was a good finish for Bock, in her first year out for wrestling. And that the Buccaneers had some highly-rated wrestlers who beat the Lions in the finals.
Next up is the Class 1A State-Qualifier on Friday, Jan. 30, at Midland.
