On Sunday, Jan. 11, The Be Original 4-H Club traveled to Alburnett to visit the Corteva Agriscience Facility. During their visit, Dr. Andy Ross presented a slideshow about corn breeding. He explained the various jobs with corn breeding, how to breed corn, and also included a family tree of the hybrids of corn. After the slideshow, the club toured Corteva’s facilities. The club was shown the different plots of land that Corteva experimented new seed numbers on. Their plots had various growing conditions and soil types that spanned across Iowa and states surrounding. The club also got to see how Corteva packages and ships their seed varieties to the plots of land. Lastly, they learned about the drones that Corteva uses for land plotting, monitoring growth patterns and chemical application. Overall, the club had a great time and learned a lot at Corteva’s facility in Alburnett.
A short club meeting was held after the tour. Their sole annual club fundraiser packets were handed out.
If the public is interested in purchasing fruit, meat or cheese, please see a Be Original 4-H Club member before Feb. 10. Thank you for your continued support.
The next club meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Lisbon School cafeteria.
