Mount Vernon Lisbon Community Theatre (MVLCT), is excited to open its 2026 season with The Minutes, the sharply witty and unsettling comedy by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Tracy Letts. Performances will take place February 13-14 and Feb. 20-21 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the First Street Community Center Uptown Theatre in Mount Vernon.
A scathing look at small-town politics, The Minutes begins as an ordinary city council meeting before spiraling into a darkly funny exposé of buried secrets, personal agendas, and the fragile stories a community chooses to protect. Letts blends satire and suspense to challenge how we remember our past—and what happens when the truth refuses to stay hidden.
“Since seeing The Minutes on Broadway a few years ago, I’ve wanted to bring it back to the Mount Vernon-Lisbon community,” said Trevor Baty. “It’s an incredibly timely production, and if you’ve ever served on a committee, board, or council I’m sure this will bring back memories. This a searingly funny show that devolves into something secretive and suspect to say the very least, but we’ll leave that up to the show itself.”
The production features a dedicated ensemble of local performers and sets the tone for a season of daring artistry and thoughtful storytelling.
