Hilltop Plant and Records will host a vinyl album release party for DZ Combo Saturday, Feb. 21.
Mount Vernon is the second stop on the DZ Combo’s album release schedule, with an album release party scheduled Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Bell Town Theater in the band’s home town of Dubuque.
For Hilltop’s event, Michael Bray said that DZ combo will play many original compositions from their new album.
“The concert will be free of charge, all ages welcome and they will have their new album on vinyl for purchase,” Bray said. “They also have vouchers for a digital download of the album.”
DZ Combo is a jazz quartet based out of Dubuque, Iowa. The group plays original jazz music written by pianist and composer, Danny Zanger. The quartet features Jeremy Jones on bass, Dan McNamara on drum set, and Benjamin Drury on trumpet. The DZ Combo formed with the goal of making jazz music more accessible to the Tri-State area. Upcoming gigs, demo recordings, and more can be found on their website: TheDZCombo.com.
Bray said this is not DZ Combo’s first stop to Hilltop Plant and Records. The band participated in Hilltop’s Open Jazz Jam in 2025.
“We loved their band at the jam and ended up booking them for a paid gig at Hilltop,” Bray said.
And that opportunity and show impressed the band, especially the diversity of the audience.
“We had members of the high school jazz band, Cornell College students, family and senior citizens came to see this great jazz band,” Bray said.
Bray said that Hilltop Plants and Records has a goal to book local artists with physical media to promote and sell, so this opportunity perfectly aligns with that goal.
“We will start carrying their album regularly in our Local Iowa section, where you can find William Elliott Whitmore, Slip Knot, Any Williams and other native Iowa musicians,” Bray said.
