Cascade put the pressure on Lisbon girls’ basketball and didn’t let up, winning 75-39 Friday, Jan. 2 in the Lions’ Den.
“They got after us early and we struggled with their pressure,” Lisbon Coach Jack Leighty said. “Their defense is really solid and gave us fits as well.”
Cascade (6-2) were pretty solid offensively, too, hitting eight 3-pointers.
The Cougars got out to a 19-7 lead after one quarter. Lisbon (5-5) cut the lead down to six, but never got any closer.
“We’ll learn from this and get after it again this week,” Leighty said.
Junior Morgan Sauser led the scoring with 12 points on four 3-pointers. Kamryn Kahl had nine points and Kyla Kahl added eight. Ava Ahrendsen had a team-high five rebounds and Emma Pleasant had four assists.
The Lions start 2026 4-1 and tied for second place in the Tri-Rivers East.
Boys’
Lisbon boys’ basketball ran into a bit of a meat grinder to open 2026, falling to Cascade 56-42 on Friday, Jan. 2.
“They were the most physical team we’ve faced this year,” Lisbon coach Levi Montague said. “Their size was a matchup problem for us.”
Mick Hoffman led the attack with 27 points for Cascade (6-1).
Freshman Tyler Kubovec led Lisbon (3-6) with 19 points. Junior Griffin Barber had a team-high seven rebounds.
“Griffin always talks about modeling his game after Dennis Rodman,” Montague said. “He knows what he has to do to help the team. He’s undersized but he works hard and is a guy you need out on the floor.”
Cascade was the third of five River Valley teams on the schedule. Lisbon is 1-2 in those games, so far.
