Lisbon girls’ wrestling split a double dual on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the Lions’ Den. They beat Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union 48-12, and lost to Union 41-36.
Union took advantage of forfeits to get the win.
“The girls wrestled tough and we were right in it,” Lisbon Coach Seth Hall said. “One swing match away.”
The Lions closed the pre-Christmas schedule by taking eight wrestler to the Bubba Randles Winter Classic on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
Hall split the roster, sending half into the junior varsity bracket. On the varsity side, Emma Dietsch (145) placed third and Grace Gadberry (105) was fifth at the 26-team tourney.
“It was no walk in the park,” Hall said. “It was good to see everyone get good quality matches in.”
Things really pick up speed from here, with the Tri-Rivers Meet on Jan. 23 and the State-Qualifying Meet on Jan. 30.
“I feel good about where we’re at,” Hall said. “The postseason is coming up faster than you think.”
