Lisbon boys’ basketball started the year 0-3, but started a winning streak last week with a 74-54 win over Prince of Peace on Friday, Dec. 12, and an afternoon non-conference 48-31 win at Tipton on Saturday, Dec. 13.
A third game, Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Easton Valley, was postponed.
“We played in the afternoon after a Friday night game, and came out a little sluggish,” Lisbon Coach Levi Montague said of the Tipton win.
The Lions were trailing the Tigers, 28-26 after three quarters, but then won the final quarter, 22-3.
“We started to give them just one shot and no offensive rebounds,” Montague said. “And for us, everything started to click. We were moving the ball better and getting high percentage looks.”
Ian Whittenbaugh finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Tyler Kubovec added nine points.
The night before, Whittenbaugh delivered with 21 points and six rebounds, and Kubovec had 17 points and six rebounds. The Lions (2-3) shot 53.4 percent from the floor (31 of 57).
“We definitely had a size advantage on the inside,” Montague said. “For a team that had not been shooting well, it was nice to get some stuff to go down.”
