Lisbon girls’ wrestling finished eighth at the 15-team Tipton Invitational on Monday, Dec. 1, then went 0-4 at the Iowa Valley Duals on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Marengo.
“That was tough,” Lisbon coach Seth Hall said. “Most of those teams had backups at every weight, and we had our nine (wrestlers). We competed, even giving up forfeits.
“I told the girls don’t worry about team scores, I wanted to see how they compete.”
The Lions lost to Camanche (60-18), Davenport (58-24), Des Moines Public (40-36) and Iowa Valley (54-18).
Emma Dietsch (145) and Grace Gadberry (115) each went 4-0 on the day.
At Tipton, Gadberry (110), Elli Avila (120), Alina Mallie (140) and Kaylee Jordan (155) all placed third.
“Everyone started a little slow, but they came out in the later rounds firing,” Hall said. “It was a pretty impressive run by Elli Avila, who pinned a girl a girl that beat her in the frontside. That was cool to see.”
Avila lost to Paetynn Reyna of Iowa Valley in the quarterfinals by pin in 27 seconds, but turned it around and pinned Reyna in the third-place match in 1:50.
