The first week of the season saw Lisbon wrestler Emma Dietsch establish herself as a contender. Last week at the Midland Invitational on Tuesday, Nov. 25, freshman teammate Grace Gadberry joined her.
Gadberry and Dietsch both won titles in Wyoming. Gadberry went 4-0, beating Avery Speas of Central DeWitt in the finals by major decision, 8-0.
She also beat Haylee Cannon of West Delaware 4-3 and Brooke Sprank of Bellevue 5-3 and Avery VanDorn of Clinton 11-0.
“You could kind of see it in her face, she wanted it bad,” Lisbon coach Seth Hall said. “She was a little nervous for her first finals match, but she got a major, and wrestled like a veteran.”
Dietsch continued to roll, pinning all three of her opponents, including Lily Helm of West Delaware in the finals, in 2:54.
“She had a nice night,” Hall said.
Other Lions to earn a medal included Alina Mallie (140) in third, and Kaylee Jordan (155) in fourth. Freshman Cayla Stricker was seventh.
Mallie bounced back with two pins after losing to Gracie Shelton of West Delaware.
Lisbon finished seventh overall at the 17-team event. Hall had a few wrestler the JV portion of the event to “get experience.”
“It was our most complete tournament of the year,” Hall said. “The girls were ready to go.”
