Gone are the high-flying dunkers. The Lions are going to look a lot different this winter. Think lunchpail.
“We’re okay not being as flashy as last year,” Lisbon coach Levi Montague said. “It is going to look different.”
Senior Ian Whittenbaugh returns as the lone starter back after averaging 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
“Ian was willing to do a lot of the dirty work last year,” Montague said. “He’s big enough to post up, and talented enough to play on the wing.
“He’s more willing to shoot the ball than he was last year.”
Senior Nathan Ahrendsen was a top reserve and played in 20 games last season, but is playing through a
football injury.
“He’s a team-first guy who does whatever it takes,” Montague said.
After that, there are a few other former JV players who will get a chance to shine on varsity, like senior Carew Kamaus and senior Nathan Brown, a 6-foot-3 offensive lineman.
But it has been a bit of a scramble, as some players didn’t return this winter.
And there may be some tough sledding in the Tri-Rivers Conference, where the teams Lisbon beat a year ago are bringing players back, like Calamus-Wheatland and Midland. Others had a lot of turnover, like the Lions.
