Looking at this week’s newspaper, there’s plenty going on in our communities. We have gallery openings at Cornell College and Abbe Creek Gallery this weekend. We’re a week out from Mount Vernon’s Chili Cook-Off. We have a Music on Main concert, the second in a row from the CDG, this weekend at First Street Community Center. An outdoor movie of “Casper” at the Bijou this Friday evening (if weather permits).
Then you have the usual Halloween activities, beginning with the Trunk or Treat event at Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center and events out at Bass Farms. Then trick-or treating in both communities and the return of Halloweentown in downtown Lisbon. This year, Hallmark Care Center is welcoming kids to trick-or-treat there from 4-5 p.m., and Lisbon will have their costume parade at the elementary grade levels the day of Halloween.
And in two weekends, we’ll have the fall plays/musicals at Lisbon High School (Peter Pan) and Mount Vernon High School (Hadestown) taking stage.
And we have a local election for school boards, mayor in Mount Vernon, and councils in Lisbon and Mount Vernon coming up Tuesday, Nov. 4. As is the stance of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun, we don’t care who you vote for, but we encourage you all to get out and vote and attend or pay attention to the candidates forums that were held.
It’s a busy time of year, so if you’re scrambling to find things to do to enjoy these crisp fall days, you have plenty of options and opportunities.
