Fundraising underway for Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service
A fundraising campaign is underway for the Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service to help purchase updated radios.
Jacob Lindauer, director of the service, said that the service received a grant from Union Pacific Railroad to update the radios for $10,000, and private donations are currently at $3,000. Last month’s round up at Gary’s contributed another $4,600 towards the cause.
With each radio costing roughly $5,500 a piece, the service is looking to raise funds to support 10 to 15 radios.
“The ones we have are nearing end of life, and there aren’t many parts to repair them,” Lindauer said.
The new radios would be significantly smaller and also work on encrypted channels at many area hospitals to communicate private patient information and help emergency rooms prepare for their arrival.
Donations can be made to LMVAS via their website lmvas.org and clicking on donate, which will take you to a page tracking current donations and the departments goal.
SELCC launching satellite food pantry at Cornell College
Southeast Linn Community Center will be launching a satellite food pantry at Cornell College’s campus.
SELCC director Nicole McAlexander said this is being done to help Cornell College students have access to food items if they need them.
“We know that the three miles from Cornell College to Lisbon can be hard for students to make, especially when balancing classes and other items in their schedule,” McAlexander said.
Scouting for Food this weekend
The local Boy Scouts of America troops will be participating in Scouting For Food this Saturday, picking up donations for the Southeast Linn Community Center Food Pantry.
Director Nicole McAlexander said that items the food pantry is currently in need of include peanut butter, jelly and canned soups, among others.
If you are leaving a donation, leave it in a highly visible area and members of the Scouts will collect them from area porches Saturday morning to drop off at SELCC, where donations will be sorted.
