Lisbon volleyball has won 48 straight Tri-Rivers Conference matches, but were really pushed last week in a five-set banger against Clinton Price of Peace on Thursday, Oct. 2.
The Lions came back after being down the first two sets, 24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-5.
“Prince of Peace is a rising team, for sure,” Lisbon coach Lance Kamaus said. “Senior middle hitter Kyla Bellich is a Valparaiso commit, and they have a lineup of freshmen and sophomore who have size and are very good players.”
The Lions trailed 9-4 in the fourth set, but went on a 36-10 run to close out the match.
“I was proud of the resilience of our kids,” Kamaus said. “Our energy level was outstanding.”
Mykala Luzum-Selmon led the way with 25 kills. Kamryn Kahl had 11 kills and Kaitlyn Silver and Alexa Roos added six kills each. Lauren Stolte had 25 assists and Emersyn Reiter had 17 assists.
Two days earlier, Lisbon swept Bellevue Marquette 25-7, 25-9, 25-16 in the Lions Den on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The Lions closed the week going 3-1 at the Northeast Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Lisbon defeated Bellevue Marquette 21-9, 21-12, Camanche 21-16, 16-21, 15-6 and Prince of Peace 17-21, 21-15, 15-10, but lost to No. 11 (3A) Wilton 21-9, 21-15.
Lisbon hosted North Cedar (18-7, 5-0) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, for Pink Out and then hosts Easton Valley (1-22, 1-4) on Thursday, Oct. 10, for Senior Night.
“We are all aware of the streak,” Kamaus said. “And we all hope it reaches 50 by the end of the week, for sure.”
If it does, Lisbon (25-6, 4-0) will have claimed its ninth straight Tri-Rivers East title.
