Candidates have been set for the upcoming school board and city council election for the communities of Mount Vernon and Lisbon.
For the Lisbon City Council race, incumbents Ricky Scott and Nathan Smith will be running for two of the three seats open on the city council. The seat left open by Mike Williams will need a write-in candidate for the race, possibly the person that is appointed by the city council for that seat being that candidate.
In the Mount Vernon City Council race, incumbent Paul Tuerler will seek another four-year term while C. Sherene Hansen Player will be running for the additional open seat for the Mount Vernon City Council. There are only two seats open for Mount Vernon City Council this election.
The Mount Vernon mayor race has two people running for the seat. Incumbent Tom Wieseler will be challenged by Keith Huebner for the race.
Mount Vernon School Board will be looking for one more candidate in the race, as incumbents Rick Elliott and Tim Keegan run for additional four-year terms to the board, filling two of the three open seats this year.
For Lisbon School Board, Travis Bagby and incumbent Robyn Richey are running for the two open seats on the school board.
The general city and school board election is Tuesday, Nov. 4, with polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Absentee ballot requests can be made now and will be mailed on or after Wednesday, Oct. 15. Absentee ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. to election services (Jean Oxley Public Service Center located at 935 Second Street S.W. in Cedar Rapids).
