By the end of the day Thursday, Sept. 18, we’ll know what seats are left to fill in both Lisbon and Mount Vernon for the city council and school board elections.
This past week, the City of Lisbon voted to go ahead with appointing a replacement for council member Mike Williams seat, due to health concerns for Williams. Williams has had a long history of public service in the community of Lisbon before this recent foray into the city council seat. But it left the City in an awkward space, especially with the general election arriving just days after the process for appointing someone to the seat were to take place. We agree with the council the best option for all involved is appointing someone to fill that seat, even temporarily, and then fill that open seat as part of the election.
As of Friday, Sept. 12, there were still a few seats open for both the Lisbon City Council and Mount Vernon City Council, as paperwork hasn’t been turned into the county auditor’s office ahead of the election.
As is usual, the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun will post profiles of the candidates for council, mayor and both school board elections, with those being mailed and emailed to those seeking elected office in late September, with plans to run the last profiles by Thursday, Oct. 23.
We thank any and all who put their name in for consideration in the election and representing these communities and giving the electorate choices. The goal of the voters now is to determine which candidates best represent them in the coming elections.
