Prismsscape made the move from Iowa City to Mount Vernon earlier this year.
Gina Crosheck, one of the co-owners of the shop, noted that it was a great collaboration for the business.
“We had needed to be downsizing our shop from what it was in Iowa City,” Gina said. “As we were looking for spaces to do that, Wahneta Dimmer, who I knew from some of the modalities I’ve studied, had an opportunity in the store in Mount Vernon for Hands in Harmony. She was saying maybe we should share the same space in Mount Vernon.”
Gina said that the shop is roughly one-third of the retail space they had in Iowa City, but this collaboration allows them to have hours even when they aren’t in the shop, with the staff at Hands in Harmony being able to take the sales of crystals or healing rocks when Hands in Harmony is open for the massage therapy portion of business.
“I kept thinking it may be too far away compared to where we were, but I have to say Mount Vernon has been nothing but extremely welcoming to us as new business owners,” Gina said.
Gina and business partner George Croscheck have been running this business for the past 11 years in Iowa City. Gina got into the crystals shortly after retiring from the University of Iowa in 2014.
“The summer after I retired, we ended up going to Tucson, Ariz., which is the biggest vendor for healing crystals in the world,” Gina said. “Six months after we bought our first stones there, we opened the business in 2015.”
Gina and George said they try to be welcoming to everybody that comes through their door to make sure they have a safe, welcoming and inviting experience.
The duo were also thankful for many of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group ambassadors to welcome the shop to uptown with a ribbon cutting.
Hours for Prismsscape are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with additional extended hours Wednesday and Friday when Hands in Harmony is open for later massage therapy clients.
