Artists lined the block in front of First Street Community Center Saturday, Sept. 13, as the Lincoln Highway Arts Festival returned to uptown Mount Vernon.
The event featured children’s activities, face painting, caricature artist and live music from two local bands, as well as multiple artists participating in the show.
With temperatures sticking in the 90s most of the morning, it didn’t deter a steady crowd to the uptown to take part in the festival.
Kids art activities included sunflower suncatchers, painting rocks and a craft with stART.
Honorable mention in the adjudicated show went to Rich Jamison and his woodworking creations. Artists pick at the festival went to Shelly Bails.
Former poet laureate Amelia Kibbie read the poem “The Summer Day” by Mary Oliver, filling in for Scott Russell Morris who was out of town for the event.
One of the last lines “What is it you planned with your wild and precious life?” is in Kibbie’s classroom at school this year.
