Girls intro program for first/second graders with the high school basketball team and third – sixth grade basketball registration is open! Forms can be found online at www.cityoflisbon-ia.gov and at City Hall. Registration deadline is Friday Oct. 10.
Volkan Orhon double bass recital
Volkan Orhon, double bass, will play a recital in Lisbon Library’s Heritage Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Rose Chancler will also play on piano
This event is free and open to the public.

Volkan Orhon was a finalist and prizewinner in the Concert Artists Guild Solo Competition in New York City, and was the co-first place winner of the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition. Additionally, he distinguished himself as the first double bass player ever to win the grand prize overall and first prize for double bass at the American String Teacher’s Association Solo Competition.
Orhon has performed with internationally recognized musicians including Gary Karr, Fazil Say, and JACK, Emerson and Tokyo String Quartets and has played solos with orchestras and recitals around the world. He was one of the performers for the international consortium of Pulitzer Winner composer John Harbison’s Concerto for Bass Viol and Orchestra. Most recently he recorded the Double Bass Concerto with the with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, a work written for him by David Gompper.
Mr. Orhon has been an invited clinician to workshops across the U.S. and abroad, including Berlin World Bass Festival, Ouro Branco Festival in Brazil, World Bass Festival in Paris, and BASS2016 Prague as well the International Society of Bassists.
He is currently professor of double bass at the University of Iowa.
Red Chamber Illuminated Concert
Join us for a illuminated fall chamber music performance with Red Cedar Chamber Music Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at Lisbon Library’s Heritage Hall.
Global Consortium features newly commissioned works for an eclectic string quartet of violin, clarinet, cello and persian setar. Guest artists and composers Jean-François Charles and Ramin Roshandel each will contribute a new work. Charles will compose a Blues Suite and Roshandel a narrative based exploration of Persian music and culture.
Poetry with Khushal Gujadhur from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop
Are you a writer that is interested in improving your skills or connecting with other local writers? Have you ever wondered what it might be like to participate in a workshop at the world-renowned Iowa Writer’s Workshop? Khushal Gujadhur from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop will join us at the Library Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. to provide a workshop experience right here in Lisbon.
This month, we’ll be learning more about writing poetry.
