You can’t keep a good dog down for long.
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the annual Doggie Dip was held at the Mount Vernon Aquatic Center, the last day the pool was officially opened before being drained and prepared for the winter season.
There were numerous tennis balls floating in the pool and chased by dogs willing to traverse to the deeper end of the pool. One pooch even made a game of retrieving two tennis balls and then putting them in the grass courtyard inside the center before heading off to do the same with two more tennis balls.
And while the frog slide disappeared this year, many dogs still took their chances on the slide in the zero entry end of the pool.
Dog owners took the chance to socialize as their pets splashed and frolicked in the pool.
“Oh my god, there are beagles here!” said one attendee as two beagle dogs started barking at some of the other dogs as a welcome.
The event is an annual fundraiser for the Nancy Doreen Huffman Dog Park in Mount Vernon. This year, there was a possibility the event would have been postponed for potential maintenance still needed to be completed at the pool this spring, but that did not happen.
