
Jane L. (Johnston) Perry, age 87 of Bloomington, Minn., passed away Saturday July 12.
Jane was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, to the late Julian and Florence (Turner) Johnston. She married the love of her life, Donald D. Perry on May 28, 1960; he preceded her in death Sept. 20, 2021. She is survived by her son, Douglas D. Perry and wife Sarah of Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren, Gustavo, Julian, and Laila Perry, all of Bloomington, Minn.; and one sister, Janet A. McCannon of Denver, Colo. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Julie L. Perry; and her sister, Salina Campbell.
Jane was proud of her education. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1955 and received a bachelor of science in Education from the University of Illinois in 1959. She taught English in Newtown, Ill., for some time. Later, she became a Library of Congress Certified Braillist and was the Braille Specialist for Eastern Illinois Special Education for 21 years.
Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon, Ill., Delta Gamma Sorority, Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), as well as the National Braille Association.
Jane was a worldly traveler with trips to many foreign destinations. She enjoyed sailing, reading, and spending time on the South shore of Lake Superior. After Don’s passing Jane relocated to Bloomington, Minn., to be closer to her family. She cherished being able to attend all grandchildren’s hockey and baseball games that she could.
Jane lived a life of purpose and service, centered around her love for God, her family, and her community. She will be lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, Ill.,; Reverend Todd Krost will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow in Dodge Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be held the same day from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
