Firefighters from Springville Fire Department, Lisbon Fire Department and Mount Vernon Fire Department put out a fire at 115 Heather Lane in Springville Monday, Aug. 25.
According to Sgt. James R. Gales of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were notified of the blaze at 8:09 a.m.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found heavy smoke coming from the attached garage of the residence. Homeowner Joe D. Erdman, 44, had left for work prior to the fire being discovered.
Quick action by the Springville Fire Department contained the fire damage to the garage. Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000.
Mount Vernon Fire Department found a small dog in the basement of the home. The dog was scared, but appeared to be okay and was taken by Cedar Valley Humane Society to the Anamosa Vet Clinic to get checked out.
Cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation by Springville Fire, the State Fire Marshall Office and Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
