The construction project at Lisbon Schools is finally nearing completion.
Board member John Baker said that the majority of punch list items are being completed with the contractors right now, and the retainage for those items are being replaced.
The improvements to the kitchen for the school are proceeding as planned, including updates to the lighting, paint and flooring.
“It looks really good, and is taking a lot of moving parts to have happened and on schedule as it is,” Baker said.
The board is hopeful that the project will be completed with time to spare and that the kitchen will be usable by the start of school. If that doesn’t happen, there are plans for grilling out meals the first week of school instead.
One other item that will need to be addressed in the kitchen in coming years is replacing the dishwasher.
Work on the legacy hallway improvements is also wrapping up. The district will be putting back some of the trophies and photos in the display cases along that hallway in the coming weeks.
“It just became one of those areas, especially after all the work we did on the district lobby outside the Lions’ Den, that we needed to address,” school board member Allan Mallie said. “I think it looks very nice.”
While there are some retainages being released, Mallie also said the weather this summer has highlighted a few areas that needed to be repaired, including a drain in the Lions’ Den that impacted the new flooring and a reslope of the concrete access to the career and technical education classroom addition on the north side of the building.
“At the CTE classroom, the slope of the driveway was allowing some of the rainwater to flow into the classroom,” Mallie said. “It’s an item that’s still under contract, so it was nice to discover it now so it can be addressed at no cost to the district.”
