Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service hosted a free screening of the documentary “Honorable But Broken: EMS In Crisis” at the Bijou Movie Theater in Mount Vernon.
The screening was a fundraiser for the service, with half the proceeds from concession sales for the screening going to the service, as well as donations.
The documentary walks through the staffing crisis facing many volunteer services, as well as the issues facing the funding for EMS. As a transport service, that is where a lot of funding happens for ambulance services, and COVID-19 pandemic added a lot more calls for service but fewer transports for medical services provided.
Other issues addressed include the amount of burnout and stress providers face in the profession throughout the country.
LMVAS director Jake Lindauer reminded citizens they are trying to put an issue on a ballot in the future to help financially support the service similar to what is provided to other essential services, like law enforcement and fire services.
