According to Sgt. Kevin Louis of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were paged to a crash at Hwy. 30 and Kepler Drive in rural Mount Vernon. Sanchini was driving a silver Kia Soul across the intersection of Hwy. 30 and Kepler Drive. Sanchini failed to yield to oncoming traffic as they were entering Kepler Drive, and were struck by a westbound black Ford Ecosport driven by Jiawen Cai, 45, Lisbon.

The Soul ended up in the south ditch with rear end damage, while the Ecosport had significant front-end damage and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway.

Sanchini was charged with failure to yield upon entering through highway and failure to prove security against liability (accident).
