Mount Vernon Solo/ensemble contest results
The Mount Vernon Music Department had an outstanding day Saturday, March 29, at Solo/Ensemble contest. In total, the MV music department entered 104 events and recorded 65 Division I and 38 Division II ratings.
Four of the seven Best in center awards went to Mount Vernon students.

Registration for intro to T-ball, t-ball and coach pitch open for Lisbon, MV
Registration for Intro to T-Ball, T-Ball, and Coach Pitch for students in grades first and second are now open. Forms are available online at www.cityoflisbon-ia.gov or in person at City Hall. Please return the player information form along with a signed waiver to the City Hall offices. Deadline for Intro to T-Ball, T-Ball, and Coach Pitch is Friday, May 2. Intro to T-Ball, T-Ball and coach pitch softball and baseball registrations for students in first and second grade are also open for Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation at mtvernon.recdesk.com/community/program. Cost for coach pitch and t-ball is $32 for residents and $37 for non-residents, with a registration deadline of Friday, May 9. Concert & Conversation with Ed Fallon
Ed Fallon, a musician and farmer with Birds and Bees Urban Farm, will perform a classical piano concert and discuss local food and farming at Lisbon Heritage Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The concert is free and open to the public.
Teen art class: Window Painting with Chalk Markers
Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to join us for a window painting class with local artist Nina Scott. Attendees will get tips for using chalk markers to decorate class windows. The class is today (Thurday, April 10) from 5-6 p.m. at the Lisbon Public Library.
Odyssey Theatre camp registration open
Registration for Odyssey Theatre’s For the Young at Art’s summer drama workshop is now open. Practices begin noon Monday, June 9, and go through three weeks, with performances Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at Mount Vernon District Auditorium of “Alice n Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass.” The camp is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Tech students can be in at least fifth grade, interns can be eighth grade and up.
Registration is $165 for Venmo or check, and tuition for the whole workshop is $365 for students through eighth grade. Families with multiple student participants receive discount of $25 for each additional student. Need based scholarships are available upon inquiry. Interns in high school and eighth grade are tuition free.

Writing Workshop Lisbon Library
Lisbon Public Library will be hosting its second Writing Workshop Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lisbon Library.
Poet Griffin Rockwell, a current student of poetry at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, will provide instruction from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Griffin Rockwell is a poet who can frequently be found writing about gender, science, space, and unusual connections. Griffin is the author of the Elgin Award-nominated chapbooks body in motion (perhappened press) and Lexicon of Future Selves (VA Press) as well as two microchapbooks; their work has appeared in AGNI, Cotton Xenomorph, Whale Road Review, Palette Poetry, and elsewhere. Griffin is currently studying poetry at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
Attendess will then workshop each other’s work from 11 a.m. to noon.
