It was a pretty fun week for the Mustangs, clinching the WaMaC East title and winning a first-round regional game.
Things get tougher from here, however.
Mount Vernon (19-3) faced Davenport Assumption (11-11) on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in a 3A regional semifinal, and if that goes well, will host the regional final on Saturday night, Feb. 17.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Mustangs clinched their first WaMaC title since 2013, with a 53-34 win over West Delaware.
“Following Friday night’s loss (to Solon), the last thing we wanted to do was share (the title),” Mount Vernon coach Nate Sanderson said. “Mission accomplished.”
Mount Vernon led by 12 points at half, 35-23.
Sydney Huber led the scoring with 19 points. And Chloe Meester had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs opened the Class 3A postseason with a 70-29 romp over Anamosa (3-17) on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Nine different players scored, led by 20 from Huber. Peyton Simpson added 12 points on four 3-pointers and as a team, the Mustangs shot 10-of-17 from the arc.
