Mustang varsity baseball split a doubleheader with visiting Independence Thursday, June 1. The Mount Vernon chapter of the Mustangs, playing on their home field, took the first game 2-1.
Game One
Ethan Wood and Colin Bentley were a couple of the difference-makers in the first of the two games. Wood had one hit in three at bats – but the hit was a triple. Bentley also had one hit, but it produced two RBIs, and the sophomore stole a base in the win.
Mason Hartman presided over the win on the mound, pitching for six innings, and striking out four.
Game Two
Independence bounced back in the second game, winning 9-0 over the home team by steadily posting runs through every inning except for the third and the sixth.
