The Mount Vernon varsity basketball team improved to 4-3 in a week of action with a road game to Vinton they won 46-30 and defeating the visiting Marion Wolves 47-29.

The Mustangs started by treating the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings to a loss on their home court.
The visitors possessed a 27-11 lead at the half, though the Vikings matched their 19 second half points.
The Mustangs have an 8-2 edge against the Vikings dating back to 2008.
Friday, Dec. 17
The Mustangs hosted the 5-1 Marion Wolves Friday, winning handily 47-29.
In the first and second quarters, Mount Vernon scored double what the visiting team scored, ending the first period 10-5, and outscoring the Wolves 12-6 in the second to take a 22-11 (again, double) lead into the half.
Mount Vernon’s Evan Brase looks to go up for a shot against a defender earlier in the season.
