The Mount Vernon Community Band concluded the season this year with the community jazz band concert Tuesday, July 7.
Music performed included “Blues in Hoss Flat,” “Summertime,” “Stormy Weather,” “Jump, Jive, and Wail!” “Cabaret,” “My Cherie Amour,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Birdland.”
Community band director Elise Rodenberg thanked the audience for their support throughout the season for this year’s performances.
“I teach middle school band students every year and tell them this is a skill they can take with them all their life,” Rodenberg said. “And this is my chance to show that is true, with all of these musicians of all ages who play for the summer.”
Rodenberg also commended the work of Jayne Dewitte and her crew in beautification of Memorial Park almost every week before the shows.
“She and her crew are here most Tuesday evenings weeding the stone stairs to make sure the gazebo looks it’s absolute best,” Rodenberg said.
