Shawn Carmer, 47, of Lisbon was killed and Chelsea Carmer, 39, Preston Carmer, 20, and Conner Carmer, 12, were injured in a crash in Hollister, Mo., Sunday, July 5. Chelsea, Preston and Conner were all transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo., with Conner by TCAD and Chelsea (severe injuries) and Preston (moderate injuries) transported via Lifeflight.
According to Missouri State Trooper K.A. Wagner, first responders were called to a crash along Tall Timbers Way at 6:45 p.m., a road leading to campgrounds and cabins in Missouri.
The crash occurred when the 2026 Club Car Onward golf cart being driven by Shawn was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and traveled off the right side of the roadway, getting airborne. The cart collided with a rock wall, and all four occupants of the cart were ejected.
Shawn’s brother, Michael, noted on Facebook that the brakes failed in the golf cart preceding the crash, and Shawn did what he could to keep the cart from rolling, protecting his wife and kids aboard the cart.
Shawn was pronounced dead on scene at 7:01 p.m. by Taney County Paramedic Celia Ames.
Wagner was assisted on scene by Sgt. S. Isringhausen and Trooper T. Wallace.
A GoFundMe has been established for the Carmer family at https://gofund.me/21aae21e5.
Funds raised will help with a memorial service for Shawn, medical bills, helping to fund the household needs and those staying in Missouri during the process of recovery for Chelsea and the kids.
