The Lincoln Highway Arts Festival will return to Mount Vernon Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“One thing I love about the Lincoln Highway Arts Festival is that it is a great example of how the arts can bring people together,” said Tiffany Carr, Mount Vernon Area Arts Council (MVAAC) president. “Like every year, we have some amazing artists that are surrounded by lots of fun activities and entertainment. My favorite part is always seeing how engaged the whole family is with the variety of offerings we have at the Lincoln Highway Arts Festival.”
Carr said that art from the accepted artists will be featured on the MVAAC’s Facebook and Instagram feeds leading up to the event.
“This year, we have some new free children’s activities on the lawn of the First Street Community Center,” Carr said. “We are also welcoming caricature artist Kira Moore and ceramicist Hannah Walsh for the first time. The high school will have an area to showcase student work, our new Poet Laureate Scott Russell Morris is performing the opening of the festival and I am looking forward to a whole day of art, fun, and good times.”
Food trucks at the festival will include El Sol, That’s So Cheesy and The Crazy Greek.
The festival will close a few blocks of uptown First Street to the east of Highway 1 for the duration of the festival.
“By being situated to the east we avoid interfering with busy traffic, but are still visible and accessible to all those excited to come check out everything that the Lincoln Highway Arts Festival has to offer,” Carr said.
The Laid Back Band will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Asking for a Friend will perform from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Children’s activities will be provided by Cole Library from 10 a.m. to noon, the Knoots from noon to 2 p.m. and StART from 2-4 p.m.
Artist awards will be handed out at 1:25 p.m.
“Beyond the youth craft tent, kids and adults alike can watch live clay demonstrations on the potter’s wheel,” Carr said. There will be free face painting sponsored by MVAAC and caricature drawings for purchase.”
“The Lincoln Highway Arts Festival is a wonderful chance to come out and support local artists, listen to live music, and enjoy great food,” Carr said. “Not only is there something for everyone including pottery wheel demonstrations, local bands, face painting, caricatures, and free children’s activities, but it’s just a great day to be out and see your neighbors and friends. One of the unique aspects of Mount Vernon is our wealth of community events and how amazing our community is at coming out, connecting with one another, and supporting local festivals and gatherings.”
