The fifth annual lip-sync battle was held at Mount Vernon Middle School Monday, March 31. The event raised money for playground equipment for the Mount Vernon Middle School, with seven groups taking to the stage.
Guest judges this year were members of the Mount Vernon girls’ basketball team and Mount Vernon girls’ volleyball teams.
“Performers are judged based on their singing ability, choreography to the music, acting and costumes,” said Elise Rodenberg, master of ceremonies for the event.
Attendees were able to purchase as many votes as they wanted to vote for people’s choice awards.
Maggie Willems, spokesperson for the judges, said that there were a lot of tough decisions between the seven acts for the judging team.
“There were a lot of great creative interpretations of many of these songs,” Willems said.
Best costumes went to Ocean Outlaws (Maxim Schmidt, Oscar Kunz, McCoy Smyth, Elliott Micheel). Best choreography went to USA Girls (Adalyn Osterkamp, Adalynn Whitman and Allison Gail). Most dramatic interpretation went to Harriet Watson. Best interpretation of the lyrics went to Lainey Sullivan.
Fourth place overall went to California Girls (Aubry Zell, Haylee Hedges, Nora Burge, Hayden Hedges, Addison Bloom), third place to Harriet Watson, second place to USA Girls and first place and people’s choice went to Ocean Outlaws.
