For the past two years, violinist Mira Gibbons of Iowa City has donated her time to share a special violin story time at Cole Library. This story time is special for several reasons. One is that Mira is only 13-years -old and has been playing the violin since she was 2. Secondly, she shows the children a violin just their size and lets them experience playing it. Thirdly, she shares engaging children’s books that feature music or a violin before finally playing her violin for the children.
Since Mira doesn’t accept any financial compensation for this program, we have purchased some music and violin books in her honor for children and adults to help them to continue exploring the violin and music.
These titles are:
Family Dynamics: Embrace Your Sound, Courtney Woodward
The Dance of the Violin, Kathy Stinson
Itzhak: A Boy Who Loved the Violin, Tracy Newman
Suzuki: The Man & His Dream to Teach the Children of the World, Eri Hotta
