The first ever outdoor pickleball tournament was played as part of the Mount Vernon Heritage Days festivities Friday, July 12.
More than 10 teams competed in a competitive and recreational division of competition in solid 90 degree temperatures that evening on the Mount Vernon tennis courts. The tournament added to the number of events being held for the kick-off festivities for the Mount Vernon Heritage Days festival in Mount Vernon.
“We just didn’t know what to expect the first year playing this event,” said one of the events organizers.
Games moved fast, with new games slated to begin every 15 minutes on the court, with a few added breaks to keep the tournament moving.
In the end, Pro-Am was the first place winner in the competitive division, with The Green Machine placing second. Cookies and Friends was first place in the recreational division, with Grandmas in the Kitchen placing second.
