Lisbon City Council unanimously approved requested road closures and other considerations for Lisbon Sauerkraut Days in August.
The Sauerkraut Days committee requested no parking along wither side of Jackson Street from South Street to Main Street on Thursday, Aug. 15. This will allow for better two-way traffic to the park, and will also make it safer for hayrack rides. The Sauerkraut Days committee will use all of Lisbon City Park, including ball diamonds 1 and 2 for festivities.
The 100 block of West Main Street from Walnut to Washington Street and the 100 block of East Main Street from Washington to Jackson Street will be closed from 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 until noon Sunday, Aug. 18. Washington Street from Market Street to the alley behind Southeast Linn Community center will close at 5 p.m. Thursday until noon Sunday, Aug. 18.
Line up for the parade will occur at East Fifth Avenue beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday Aug. 17. The parade route will go north on Washington Street to Market Street, Market Street to Walnut Street, Walnut Street to Main Street, Main Street to Penn Street, Penn Street to South Street and then South Street to the school parking lot. Those roads will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to roughly 11 a.m., when the parade concludes.
The car show will begin in Lisbon at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Parking for the car show begins at 10 a.m. Car parking for the car show will be on East Main Street from Jackson Street to McCann Lane, Monroe Street from South Street to Market Street and Buchanan Street from Main Street to Market Street. These roads will be closed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
The Lisbon Sauerkraut Days 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. The route will be South Street to Alexander Street, Alexander Street to East Main Street, East Main Street to Business 30 and back to Monroe Street, Monroe Street to East Fifth Avenue and East Fifth Avenue from Jackson Street back to city park. The committee was asking for no parking on East South Street along the north side of the street from Jackson to Monroe Street. Road closures will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and there will be an officer on Jackson Street during this time.
Liquor licenses will be approved for Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18 for the downtown mainstage events. A temporary liquor license will be approved for the park for Wednesday, Aug. 14 through Sunday, Aug. 18, to coincide with the softball tournament.
Carnival rides and workers for the rides will stage in the parking lots between Bunting Field and Diamond 4.
Repaving of Business 30, according to Lisbon city engineer David Schechinger, will start following Sauerkraut Days so it does not impact the festival in Lisbon.
The Lisbon Fire Department also plans to hold their bathtub races Saturday afternoon.
