It’s been a bit of a June Swoon for the Lisbon baseball team.
The Lions have lost seven straight games heading into their Monday, June 24, doubleheader at Midland.
That includes a pair of losses to Easton Valley, 10-6 and 8-7, on Monday, June 17, at City Park.
“Our offensive approach was good, we just struggled fielding the plays we needed to,” Lisbon coach Lance Kamaus said.
In the first game, Ethan Hoekstra hit a home run and Luke Robinson had a double.
In the nightcap, Easton Valley scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, and Lisbon responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. But the rally ended one run short.
The bases were loaded with one out, but two hard ground outs ended the threat.
The Lions had 10 hits, with three by Carew Kamaus, and two each for Dakota Clark and Aiden Jensen.
Senior Aiden Jensen pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
In a 7-0 loss to Durant on Tuesday, June 18, at City Park, the Lions were limited to two hits.
A game against Starmont on Thursday, June 20, plus a trip to MFL MarMac on Friday, June 21, were both rained out.
Despite falling to 4-18 overall and 4-6 in the Tri-Rivers East, Kamaus sees the team still battling.
“They are working hard,” Kamaus said. “Morale is good and spirits are good. It is a big leap from Fresh-Soph to junior varsity and a big jump from junior varsity to varsity. We are doing our best. There are lots of reasons for optimism. We are taking out lumps, but looking forward to getting out on the field and competing.”
