Senior Jordan Bleile advanced to the Class 1A Regional girls tennis semifinals in singles before finishing in fourth place. Only the top two advance to the state tournament.
“We are very proud of her efforts,” Mount Vernon coach Crystal Eskelsen said. “She had to injury default the third-place match. Her shoulder was hurting her after three matches.”
The other Mustang entrants lost their first-round matchups at the singles & doubles regional Monday, May 6, in Camanche.
Mount Vernon closed out its season in the team regionals. On Friday, May 10, the Mustangs opened with a 7-2 win over South Tama, then lost to Grinnell, 5-0.
Mount Vernon finished 7-3. Grinnell (9-4) played Xavier (16-0) on Tuesday, May 14, for a spot at the 1A state team tournament.
