Doris Jean Kuntz, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away, Thursday, May 9, 2024, after battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Doris was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Burlington, daughter of Orttie and Verna (Steiner) Rocke. She graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1962. Doris married Jerry L. Kuntz in September of 1964. She was a dedicated homemaker who raised three children. Doris was an active church member in several congregations over the years and a faithful prayer warrior for her family and all those she came into contact with. Doris went back to Kirkwood College in 1999, and earned an associate’s degree in nursing. Doris would go on to work at Burlington Medical Center as a surgical technician in the early 2000s.
In addition to her studies, Doris enjoyed gardening, sewing, making memory quilts and bird watching. She maintained extensive flower gardens in her different homes over her lifetime. Most important to Doris was her faith in Jesus Christ. As a wife, mother, grandmother and friend she was sure to communicate her hope of life everlasting.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; children, Mike (Heather) Kuntz, Steve (Tracy) Kuntz, Andrea (Eric) Hasselbusch; sisters, Annette (Harold) Massner and Carol Miller; grandchildren, Jonah (Chelsea), Garrett, Renae (Joseph), Emma, Nicole, and Kaitlynn; and great granddaughter, Delaney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Elizabeth; and grandson, Samuel.
The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff, nurses and doctors at Hallmark Care Center in Mt Vernon, Iowa and Essence of Life Hospice, Amana, Iowa for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A private Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A private family burial will be held at the Kossuth Cemetery in Kossuth, Iowa.
