Mount Vernon pushed No. 15 Clear Creek Amana before falling, 2-1, on Friday, April 12, in Tiffin.
That capped a week that also included a 1-0 win at Marion on Tuesday, April 9, and a 4-0 win over Cedar Rapids Washington on Thursday, April 11, at Kingston Stadium.
“Beating Marion after they made it to state last year is a great feeling,” Mount Vernon coach Brandon Savage said. “The girls played a great game and everyone put in a great performance.”
Against Marion, sophomore Courtney Franck scored the lone goal on an assist from sophomore Isabelle Logue.
Against Cedar Rapids Washington, Logue led the offense with two goals. Lillian Gaiser and Kennedy Moore each popped in one. Assists were credited to Emme Miller (2), Gaiser and Logue.
Kennedy Moore scored against CCA. The Mustangs led in shots on goal with 9 to 6.
“We controlled the game and should have had plenty more goals, striking the post in the second half,” Savage said. “For 80 minutes we played very well but just could not get the ball in the back of the net.
“I am sure we will play CCA again, and I am sure we can get the result we deserve.”
MV is now 4-4.
MV falls to CC-A 2-1
